Olympian Jumps Higher With TOC Support, Performs at Vipers Game
Posted on: 09/25/2009
It’s not very often an Olympian comes to the Rocket City. Even less frequent are the opportunities for them to train here in Huntsville. Luckily for TOC, Olympic Gymnast Alaina Williams is doing just that. She has National Championships and the 2012 Olympic Games in London, England on her mind and with the help of The Orthopaedic Center, she’ll hopefully return with gold around her neck.
But Alaina is not the kind of gymnast you would associate with Mary Lou Retton or, more recently, Shawn Johnson. Her specialty isn’t the vault or the uneven bars; no she enjoys springing a little higher than that. Alaina has her focus set on the trampoline. It’s a relatively new sport to the Olympic Games with competition including more than simply jump up and down. Tumbling and twisting is part or every routine and Alaina has been putting her routine together since age 3 when her parents first put her in gymnastic classes.
She has already accumulated several gold and silver medals from many national and international competitions, but still has her sights set on an Olympic gold medal. As she counts down the days until her next big event, Alaina will continue to train at The Matrix Gym with the continued support of TOC.
Alaina performed one of her trampoline acts over the summer during half-time of the Tennessee Valley Vipers home game on Saturday June 27th.
