Orthopaedic Surgeon & Sports Medicine Specialist
Stanton Davis, MD specializes in arthroscopy and sports-related injuries of the shoulder, elbow and knee. Double board certified in orthopaedic surgery and orthopaedic sports medicine with advanced training in the rehabilitation and surgical treatment of injuries in active people, Dr. Davis utilizes the latest techniques, including orthobiologics, such as stem cell and platelet rich plasma, to reduce pain and speed his patients’ return to peak performance.
An Expert in Shoulder Revision Surgery
“I often receive referrals from physical therapists and physicians for patients who have not had good outcomes from previous shoulder and knee surgery. After I provide a successful result they are able to return to their active lifestyle faster, whether that’s on the athletic field, tending the farm or preparing for next hunting season.”
Former team physician of the San Francisco 49ers, Stanford University and Auburn University, Dr. Davis works hard to promote sports safety and injury prevention in youth sports, as well as treating adult injuries in the shoulder, elbow and knee, including cartilage and meniscal transplants. His experience providing orthopaedic care to athletes from the San Francisco Giants, San Jose Sharks, US Olympic team, Euro League Baseball and EuroBasket League enables him to apply that same level of care to his patients. Dr. Davis currently works with Alabama Hunter Jumper Association and US Equestrian Federation trainers and athletes. He is a team physician for the Huntsville Havoc, and Alabama A & M University. Dr. Davis partners with Huntsville Hospital SportsCenter, a community outreach program, to provide athletic training, medical and educational services to most area high schools, including Columbia, Hazel Green, Jemison and Sparkman.
Dr. Davis served as chief resident and junior faculty of Stanford University’s orthopaedic program, followed by a position as clinical faculty at the University of Tennessee School of Medicine in Chattanooga. He is currently clinical faculty for the Sports Medicine Dept at the UAB School of Medicine in Huntsville, where he actively instructs athletic trainers, physical therapy, physician assistants and young physicians in the diagnosis and treatment of sports-related conditions in youth and aging athletes.
Dr. Davis has presented instructional courses at the American Academy of Orthopaedic Surgeons and regional conferences, including Best Orthopaedic Practices held in Huntsville on injuries unique to female athletes, shoulder injuries in pitchers, overuse injuries in youth athletes, and rehabilitation of post surgical shoulders. Dr. Davis has been recognized as one of America’s Top Orthopedists by the Consumer Research Council of America.
Dr. Davis serves internationally by taking medical teams and building relationships with healthcare providers in Moldova, Haiti, Kenya and China. He hosts visiting international surgeons and instructs them on arthroscopic techniques to improve the quality of orthopaedic services in their communities.
