Biography
Dr. Cody Russell brings a comprehensive, patient-centered approach to non-surgical orthopedic care at The Orthopedic Center (TOC). With a passion for sports medicine and a proven background in both emergency and musculoskeletal care, Dr. Russell is committed to helping patients return to the activities they love stronger, safer, and sooner.
A Tennessee native, Dr. Russell earned his undergraduate degree from Samford University, where he was also a track & field athlete specializing in the decathlon. He completed medical school at East Tennessee State University, followed by an Emergency Medicine residency at Orange Park Medical Center in Jacksonville, Florida. He then advanced his expertise with a fellowship in Primary Care Sports Medicine at University Hospitals/Case Western Reserve University in Cleveland, Ohio.
Dr. Russell has served as assistant team physician for the Cleveland Browns, Cleveland Monsters (AHL hockey), and Oberlin College. He has also provided medical coverage for prestigious athletic events including the Music City Marathon, Cleveland Marathon, Ironman Florida, and THE PLAYERS Championship at TPC Sawgrass. Locally, he continues his commitment to athlete care on the sidelines of Alabama A&M, Huntsville Havoc, Huntsville FC, and high school sports throughout the Huntsville region.
At TOC, Dr. Russell specializes in the diagnosis and treatment of non-surgical musculoskeletal conditions. His clinical focus includes the use of musculoskeletal ultrasound to guide procedures such as corticosteroid injections, Visco supplementation, regenerative treatments (e.g., platelet-rich plasma), and percutaneous tenotomy for chronic overuse injuries.
Board-certified in Emergency Medicine and fellowship-trained in Sports Medicine, Dr. Russell is a member of the American Medical Society for Sports Medicine and remains dedicated to ongoing clinical education and best practices. Known for his approachable demeanor, he treats every patient as if they were family—developing personalized care plans that align with each individual’s goals and lifestyle.
Outside the clinic, Dr. Russell enjoys spending time outdoors with his wife and two young children. While new to the Huntsville area, he is energized by the opportunity to deliver high-quality, compassionate care to the community and looks forward to making a long-term impact.
