James T. Hughey, III, DO

Orthopaedic Surgeon & Sports Medicine Specialist

Dr. Hughey is a member of The Orthopaedic Center Sports Medicine Team. Board-certified in Orthopaedic Surgery, Dr. Hughey specializes in treatment of disorders of the shoulder, elbow, and knee. That specialization includes arthroscopic surgery, ligament reconstruction, and joint replacement.

Dr. Hughey graduated Magna Cum Laude from Mississippi State University with a degree in biochemistry and completed medical school and his orthopaedic residency at Kansas City University of Medicine and Biosciences. Dr. Hughey trained with renowned orthopaedic surgeon Dr. James Andrews at The Andrews Institute. During his time there, he served as assistant team physician for the Pensacola Blue Wahoos, the Cincinnati Reds’ AA baseball team. He currently serves as team physician for area high school teams, as well as the Huntsville Havoc and Alabama A&M University.

Dr. Hughey grew up in Mississippi playing a variety of sports. He is passionate about sports and sports-related injuries. He works to return athletes to play by using the most innovative and effective treatments available.

He lives in Madison with his wife and three children and enjoys traveling, Smith Lake, playing golf, and watching his kids in their various sports and activities. He is an active member of the community and his church, Asbury United Methodist Church.
