Dr. Patrick Boyett is a board certified orthopedic surgeon with a focus on minimally invasive joint replacement and arthroscopic sports medicine procedures.

He completed undergraduate studies at UAB and then medical school at Kansas City University of Medicine. Dr. Boyett performed a one year internship at Baptist Medical Center in Birmingham followed by a Family Medicine Residency at Carraway Methodist Medical Center in Birmingham. He practiced Emergency Medicine and Family Medicine from 1999-2004, during which time he was board certified in Family Medicine and board eligible in Emergency Medicine.

Dr. Boyett married his high school sweetheart, Penny, who is a Pharmacist and Surgical Physician Assistant.  She assists in surgery at times.  They have four children and enjoy activities on Smith Lake, Auburn football, Athens Middle School and Athens High School sports.  They are active members of Athens First United Methodist Church.  Dr. Boyett also remains active in medical education and routinely involves medical students on his service.

Practice Emphasis – Joint Replacement

Performing over 250 joint replacements each year, Dr. Boyett focuses on minimally invasive joint reconstruction, giving his patients a quicker recovery with less pain. A minimally invasive approach enables Dr. Boyett to perform surgeries on an outpatient basis, allowing most of his patients the ability to walk without assistance and leave the hospital on the same day of their surgery.

Dr. Boyett performs most of his surgeries at the Surgery Tower located in the Athens TOC tower, which is poised to be a premier facility for outpatient joint replacement. He works with an operating team that collaborates to improve outcomes and recovery. Dr. Boyett performs outpatient Joint Replacement surgery for patients who meet the criteria for outpatient joint replacement. The highest priority when preparing for surgery is to minimize infection risk. This is achieved through preoperative screenings, preoperative patient scrubs, and antibiotics before and after joint replacement surgery. His team then coordinates recovery with Physical Therapy, which gives his patients a more comprehensive recovery.

Practice Emphasis – Sports Medicine

Dr. Boyett serves as team physician for all Limestone County and Athens City Schools. He sees patients with a wide-range of sports-related injuries, focusing on the hip, knee, and shoulder.

With the Outpatient Surgery Tower opening in the TOC Clinic Facility, Dr. Boyett provides the latest Sports Medicine technologies, like 4K arthroscopy, which gives Dr. Boyett a clearer visibility and depth perception during surgical procedures.

Dr. Boyett and his team perform Double Row Rotator Cuff Repair, arthroscopic biceps tenodesis, ACL reconstruction with both allograft and autograft, and routine knee arthroscopy for the common meniscal tears.
